Ideas for a climate neutral pilot region
The Upper Rhine region is set to become a pilot for a greenhouse gas emission-free economic zone, focusing on sustainable energy and transport. The CO2InnO project aims to contribute to the region’s transformation into a climate-neutral hub, showcasing hydrogen-based solutions for power and heat generation, as well as e-mobility. The goal is to test and promote decentralized, climate-neutral energy and transport solutions, and assess their benefits for local and regional systems. In so doing, the project partners work closely with French and German citizens and stakeholders.
CO2InnO investigates the following elements:
• Hydrogen-based combined heat and power (CHP) unit (demonstrator)
• Sustainable mobility and charging infrastructure
• Cyber security in energy systems
• Technical, administrative and legal frameworks
• Societal acceptance
• Impact of nuclear power plant dismantling
